Eagles Captain Mikel Obi

Captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Mikel Obi, says the team is focussed for the important Russia twenty- eighteen FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, Afcons, champions, visit the 2013 Afcons winners in a
match of high importance at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, which should determine the swing of Africa’s Group B ticket to football’s biggest houseparty in Russia next year summer.

The Tianjin Teda midfielder, who alongside other invited footballers trained yesterday under the supervision of the team’s technical adviser, said the squad would never make a mistake of underrating the Zambia national team which defeated Algeria on home and away matches in the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“The talking will be done on the pitch. I have no doubt we have the quality to achieve victory, but we will not make the mistake of under–rating the Zambians.”

Knowing that a victory against Zambia on Saturday will pave te way for the team to secure a ticket for the soccer mundial in Russia in twenty- eighteeen, Obi, said the importance attached to the match was enough to motivate the squad to work hard to outwit their opponent since the winner between Nigeria and Zambia would feature at the soccer fiesta in Russia.

“We know how important the match is; that is enough motivation to go all out and give our very best. There are several players in this team who have not played at the FIFA World Cup. They want to be there in Russia next year.

Having played four matches to amass ten points, the former Chelsea FC of England midfielder, said the team needed the support and encouragement of Nigeria’s teeming socer fans to record a win against Zambia and also to participate in the World Cup for the sixth times.

“We have played four matches in the campaign so far, but this one is the match. We are fully focused and ready. All we want is the usual support and encouragement by everyone involved, including the fans who will turn out at the match venue.”

The match, slated for Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, will kick- off, 5.00pm, Nigerian time.
